Happy Easter! Happy Spring!
The blossoms herald new beginnings and all the celebrations of Spring including Easter! Here are some traditional Eastern Shore recipes to help you plan your springtime dinner.
You can start with an appetizer from My Favorite Maryland Recipes of Stuffed Eggs, these little treats are fired deviled eggs.
Here is a traditional recipe from 1811 for a spiced ham. You can find this reprint of Miss Chase’s recipe in The Hammond-Harwood House Cook Book.
From the same cookbook, you can pair your ham with one of the spring’s first vegetables, asparagus! Here’s the Harmmond-Harwood House’s own 1848 recipe.
And now for dessert! Easter is always full of chocolatey treats but here is Mrs. Kirby’s strawberry shortcake from A Cook’s Tour of the Eastern Shore. This cake serves twelve so enjoy the fine weather with all those you care about.
